Welcome to Tea Time with Mi Mi!
As the weather changes here in Houston, you may want a hot cup of tea. Of course, I love a classic masala chai, but today I’m going to share a tea recipe that’s especially comforting for your throat.
You’ll need: Lemon, Ginger, Honey, Fennel Seeds & Tea
The low-down on ginger:
For ginger newbies, go to your grocery store and find ginger root. Pick a piece up and tear off a nubby part. If the inside of the ginger looks wet and maintains a yellow color, it’s good. If the inner part appears dry and brown, it’s bad, so find another piece! Peal the skin off the ginger and dice it up!
Put 2-3 cups of water in a saucepan on the stove. Turn the heat up to High.
Put about 1 teaspoon of each spice along with the juice of half a lemon into the saucepan. Vary spices according to your taste. (After some trial and error, you will quickly find your perfect brew.)
Once the water begins to boil, turn the heat down to a Medium-low/slow boil state.
Let the spices boil and change the color of the water for about 5 minutes.
Add a decaf or caffeinated tea bag. Let it brew for a couple minutes. (I recommend a simple black tea. Adding a tea bag is actually optional because the boiled spices are beneficial & flavorful by themselves.)
Add honey to taste, garnish with sliced lemon & serve!
